Sofia Herrera, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist who is involved in several activities in the field of community psychology. As part of her clinical training completed a 2-year fellowship in pediatric and health psychology and also worked at the Keck School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
She holds a courtesy faculty appointment as Research Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Psychology of Fuller Theological Seminary and is also the Director of the seminary’s Office for Urban Initiatives.
Her work has focused on community mental health care, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, as well as research on trauma, youth violence prevention, positive youth development, and women farm workers. She has also focused on homelessness throughout Southern California and has coordinated several jurisdictional homeless counts and surveys and co-authored several related reports and assisted local counties to complete their 10-year plans to end homelessness.
Sofia is the founder of No More Homeless Women in Pasadena, and works tirelessly as a homeless advocate. She is also a cofounder of the Society of Urban Monks, a community of men and women that integrate their spiritual practices into solving social struggles.
